The
necropolis of Cruccuris
Not far from Santa Maria’s thermal baths (150-200
m), west of Villasimius, there is the necropolis of Cruccuris,
dating back between the I and II century A.D.
Till nowadays only a few tombs, made with stones, have
been the object of scientific excavations; there, some funeral
undamaged outfits, including several ointment jars meant
to follow the dead after life, were preserved.
The archaeological
theories would link the history of the necropolis to
that of the near settlement of St Mary, but to bear out these
thesis it will be necessary to continue in larger excavations. |
